Step 3: Prepare to Lodge a Claim

The more supporting evidence of damage or loss you can provide, the quicker your claim will be processed.

  • Make a list of all damaged items, including details of the damage, and take photographs of the damage wherever possible before moving them.

  • Take photographs of all angles of damaged items, including close-ups and wide photographs that put the damaged item into context.

  • Provide any photo evidence of missing items, for example, family photographs with items in the background or photographs of your property taken before the event.

  • Retain receipts for items and provide as much supporting evidence as possible.

Record Damaged or Missing Items

Get in Contact with your Insurer or Broker

  • Do not admit liability to any third parties. Your insurer is entitled to deny a claim or pay a reduced amount if your actions prejudice their ability to defend you or reinstate your loss.

  • For small property damage losses, your insurer will generally require at least one quote for repair or replacement.

  • For larger claims, an assessor may be required to inspect the loss. In the event of a large loss, please contact our office as soon as possible so we can coordinate this on your behalf.
